MS CATHERINE KHAW

Catherine is an evangelist for data and analytics literacy at economy, organisational and individual levels. She is the founder of DNA Capitals which drives competitive advantage for organisations in all industries through taking full advantage of the opportunities which arise from digitization and big data. As a data and analytics evangelist, she is an active member of Tech Talent Assembly (TTAB) association which nurtures tech talents for lifelong employability, learning and sharing.
Catherine was formerly the Practice Chief of Analytics & Intelligent System at NUS Institute of Systems Science (NUS-ISS), where she imparted her experience and knowledge to graduate students, business leaders and ICT practitioners. She also continues to serve as adjunct lecturer and coach to NUS ISS students and short course participants.
PROF. DR. WOLFGANG KARL HÄRDLE
Professor Wolfgang Karl Härdle completed his Dr. rer. nat. in Mathematics at
Heidelberg University and received his habilitation in Economics at Bonn
University. He was the founder and Director of Collaborative Research
Center CRC 373 “Quantification and Simulation of Economic Processes”
(1994 – 2003), Director of CRC 649 “Economic Risk” (2005 – 2016) and also
of C.A.S.E. (Center for Applied Statistics and Economics) (2001 to 2014). He
is currently heading the Sino-German International Research Training Group
IRTG1792 “High dimensional non stationary time series analysis”. He is the
Ladislaus von Bortkiewicz Chair Professor at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.
His research focuses on dimension reduction techniques, computational sta
tistics and quantitative finance. He has published more than 40 books and
more than 350 papers in top statistical, econometrics and finance journals.
He is one of the “Highly Cited Scientist” according to the Institute or Scientific
Information. He is among the top 1% of economists registered at REPEC
and has similar top notch rankings in other scales, such as the Handelsblatt
He has professional experience in financial engineering, structured product
design and credit risk analysis. His recent research focuses on crypto
currencies and smart data analytics for the digital economy. He supervised
more than 50 PhD students and has long-term research relations to research
partners in the USA, Singapore, Prague, Warsaw, Paris, Cambridge, Beijing,
Xiamen, Taipei among others.
DR GUO LEI
GUEST LECTURER. DATA SCIENCE INSTRUCTOR.
Dr Guo is an active educator and researcher in data science, behavioural study and design thinking, with extensive experience in delivering practice-based learning programmes and applied research projects with successful results.
Dr Guo has worked across manufacturing, entertainment and education industries. She was responsible for setting up Shanghai Office and promoting executive education programmes for NUS Business School in Greater China market.
With the aspiration of bridging the gap between research and practice, Dr Guo pursued her PhD in the UK, where she worked on large-scale research projects with Cambridge University Service Alliance, BAE Systems and China Mobile.
Dr Guo joined NUS as a faculty member in 2011. She tackles complex challenges through applied research and education. She was the Principal Investigator for a series of research projects to inform better public transport policy decisions. She consults corporate clients on data analytics, user experience design and service innovation. Dr Guo teaches executive programmes of Data Analytics and Design Thinking at NUS. She has a passion for engaging and inspiring working professionals at all levels by applying the theory to real world business applications.
Dr Guo holds a PhD in Marketing from University of Exeter, an MBA from University of Adelaide University and a BA in Literature from Beijing Normal University.
MR KOO PING SHUNG
DATA SCIENTIST. INSTRUCTOR.
Ping Shung has 14 years of experience as a Data Scientist and Analytics Instructor and counting. As a strong and passionate advocate of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, he has more than 1,700 hours of Data Science Training under his belt. He teaches at NUS, SMU Academy, SAS Institute and SUSS. He is an Industry Innovation Mentor with AI Singapore, to build Artificial Intelligence capabilities in Singapore. He runs DataScience SG, one of the biggest Data Science communities in Singapore.
Ping Shung graduated with a General MBA from University of Adelaide and was an Economics Major in NUS.
MR DAVID LOW
DATA SCIENTIST. INSTRUCTOR.
David Low is an entrepreneur and data scientist with close to 8-years of experience in AI and Machine Learning field. Before cofounding Pand.ai, a deep technology start-up incubated under Facebook Start and Google Cloud start-up program, he was a data scientist with Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) of Singapore.
Throughout his career, David has engaged in data science projects ranging from Manufacturing, Telco, E-commerce to Insurance industry. Some of his works including sales forecast modeling, mineral deposits prediction, process optimization and influencer detection had won him awards in several machine learning competitions.
Earlier in his career, David was involved in research collaborations with Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) on separate projects funded by National Research Foundation and SMART.
